Krishnamurti Retreat Centre Uttarkashi
"A goal, a purpose, a utopia, an end, is in itself divisive. If someone says, ‘I want to help you. I love this place, and I want to help you,’ I may say, ‘Come, let’s work together. There is no purpose, there is no goal.’ I will put my very best into it because I love this place. I don’t mind them telling me, ‘Please sweep the garden path.’ I say, ‘All right, that is part of the place.’ You see, all status and prestige disappears, and pure function remains."
- J Krishnamurti

The Krishnamurti Retreat Centre in Uttarkashi, a KFI Retreat, is situated in the Garhwal region of the Himalayas on the banks of the Bhagirathi river.
The Vision
The Centre was founded in the spirit of Krishnamurti’s vision of creating spaces where one could live and learn—free of authority, methods, or organized programs. As he expressed:
“This is a place of learning and austere living with inward discipline, and work, without guru, without leader, and without a system of meditation or working.”
For over four decades, the Centre has welcomed people from different parts of the world who share an interest in enquiry, offering a quiet space for stillness, reflection, and engagement with the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti.
Our intent is to make this space available to all, ensuring that the younger generation and those with limited means are not excluded from this opportunity for exploration.
You Can Help in following ways:
Sustaining the Centre
-
Although the Centre functions under Krishnamurti Foundation India, its operational expenses are met through contributions from guests and donations from well-wishers.
-
The modest daily contribution requested from participants is intentionally kept well below the actual cost, so that no one deeply interested in enquiry is turned away.
-
We request your support beyond this — in keeping with one’s capacity and inclination — to help sustain the Centre.
Sponsoring a Retreat
-
Please consider sponsoring a retreat for a student, a young person, or someone with limited means who feels drawn to these teachings.
-
You may support by donating the daily contribution for a minimum of three days, or more, as you are able.
This year, we aim to raise about 7–8 lakhs to meet the operational expenses and sponsor a few retreats for students, young people, or someone with limited means. Every contribution—large or small—will ensure that we can continue the sprit of enquiry alive.
If you feel a sense of connection with the Centre and its work, you may also wish to help us build a corpus fund. This will ensure that this place of enquiry can continue to offer an atmosphere of inquiry for years to come, without concern for sustenance and financial aspects.
All donations to KFI are eligible for tax deduction under section 80(g) of the Income Tax Act.
