Krishnamurti Retreat Centre Uttarkashi
A place of learning and austere living with inward discipline, and work, without guru, without leader, and without a system of meditation or working.
The organized retreats, conducted four to five times during the year, consist of formal dialogues around a theme, informal conversations, video-screenings of Krishnamurti’s talks and discussions, time for study, reflection, and silence. This is also an opportunity to meet people who are in inquiry, engage in dialogues with each other, and build relationships to watch oneself in the mirror of relationships.

Individual retreats are for those who want to be in an environment of quietness and great natural beauty, where full attention can be given to the teachings and their implications in their own lives. Being in an individual retreat provides an opportunity to be completely alone and leave everything of the world outside, and know more about oneself. It is a time for focused study and reflection, often involving dialogues and discussions with the resident in-charge and other guests at the centre, along with screenings of k's talks or reading his books in library.

About KRC
“Perhaps you may come upon that mystery which nobody can reveal to you and nothing can destroy.”
Krishnamurti Retreat Centre (KRC) is located on the banks of the river Bhagirathi in Uttarkashi, which is on the ancient pilgrim route from Rishikesh to Gomukh, the origin of the river Ganga. Sitting atop the high bank of the river, on about 1.4 acres of land, the retreat has as its backdrop the steep mountain slopes covered with pine forests. Set in the quiet rural environs of Ranari village, the retreat is surrounded by mountains and green fields on all sides.

Our Facilities
Krishnamurti spoke of these Centres as places of quiet—spaces that are beautiful yet simple, comfortable yet austere, where the record of all his teachings would be available for study by people who would bring their own seriousness, interest, and inquiry.
The Study
A quiet, welcoming space surrounded by beauty, where anyone drawn to the teachings can spend time with books, watch meaningful videos, and take part in open, thoughtful dialogues. Whether you come to reflect, to learn, or simply to be, the atmosphere invites a sense of peace and connection.
The Cottages
The 4 independent cottages in the retreat campus can accommodate altogether eight persons at a time. The cottages are simply but comfortably furnished with an attached bathroom. Sometimes you may have to share a room with another person.
Kitchen & Dining Hall
At the retreat we have a fully equipped kitchen, managed by our dedicated in-house cook. Each day, guests are served three wholesome vegetarian meals. The food is simple, nourishing, and made to support well-being. The dining hall offers a welcoming space to share meals and meaningful conversations.
Nature around campus
"There is a delight in seeing something very beautiful. If you are at all sensitive, if you are at all observant, if there is a feeling of relationship to nature, there is a tremendous delight. Unfortunately, very few people have this relationship."
-J Krishnamurti

Why Does the Mind Chatter?: An Inquiry into Conflict
I am occupied with my house. You are occupied with your God, with your work, with your business, with your wife, with your sex, with your children, with your property. The mind needs to be occupied with something, and therefore when it is not occupied, it may feel a sense of emptiness, and therefore it chatters. I don’t see a problem in this, I don’t see a great issue in this. Unless you want to stop chattering—that’s quite a different matter.

Life as Relationship & Action
First of all, life is a movement in relationship. Right? You cannot exist without relationship. Life is relationship and action. So we are going first to examine together what we mean by relationship. This is important because man cannot live by himself. He is always related to something or the other. He is related to another human being or related to an idea, to a concept, to an image but all that means a relationship between you and another. Right? Right sirs?

A Learning Mind
“I think it is important to understand that a man who accumulates can never learn. Self-learning implies a fresh, eager mind - a mind that is not committed, a mind that does not belong to anything, that is not limited to any particular field. It is only such a mind that learns.”

The Crisis in the world
Nationalities are dividing people. Right? And we hope to find security in nationalism, being India, France and so on, America and Russia. So, this self-interest expresses itself in many subtle ways. So one has to be aware of all that, if you are interested, if you are serious and not carry on as we do day after day. If one is seriously concerned with life, with all the things that are happening, all the terrible things that are happening, then one must ask very deeply, fundamental questions, not be satisfied with superficial questions and superficial answers. Can one live in this world, in the modern world without belonging to any group, belonging to any group, to any nationality, to any religion, following no guru?
